palimpsest

\PAL-imp-sest\, n. An object or place whose older layers or aspects are apparent beneath its surface.

If it weren't for the sign out front that read, "Truman for President... and No Blacks!", John would have never realized the cafe was a palimpsest.
I'll be damned! This TV Guide is a palimpsest! You fellas just taped a new cover on it to trick me cuz I'm old!
The Egyptian post office had mostly modern looking furniture, but the Mummy working behind the counter revealed it to be a palimpsest.
My five-disc CD makes this place look like a palimpsest and it's all because of that goddamned iPoD!!!!!
